The Mayor of Eilat, Israel
An Eilat resident for 59 years, the son of one of the city’s veteran citizens is married to Naomi, the father of three and grandfather of 11. Lankri holds a BA in Economics and is a graduate of shipping and port studies. Served as director of Dizengoff Company (Zim) in Eilat for 12 years, and deputy and acting mayor of Eilat for 18 years. Recently elected mayor of Eilat in special elections (2021).
As Deputy Mayor, Lankri spearheaded economics, tourism, employment, and innovation in Eilat. Served as Chairman of the Municipal Tourism Corporation, chairman of the Board of Directors that co-manages the Eilat Municipality and the Eilot Regional Council, Chairman of the Municipal Road Safety Committee, and Chairman of the Committee to maintain VAT exemption.
Among Lankri’s significant achievements are the economic recovery of the Eilat Municipality, restoration of tax benefits for residents, and continuation of VAT exemption. Lankri also spearheaded programs to diversify and expand sources of employment while emphasizing biotechnology, aquaculture, renewable energies, high tech, and remote employment. The new airport, promoting train planning to Eilat, upgrading the Arava road and more. Promoting tourism and improving the tourist product, branding Eilat as an international sports city, etc. As Mayor, Eli continues to lead the city while facing the challenges and maximizing Eilat’s enormous potential with dozens of plans for implementation, including an umbrella agreement, a coastline development plan, transportation plans, energy independence plans, a plan to diversify sources of employment, and a visionary plan he is spearheading, “The Southern Gateway”, which would transform Eilat into a global logical transportation hub.
